DEFENCE Counsel Lyndon Amsterdam yesterday began his submission before Justice Diana Insanally in the voir dire (smaller trial) over the caution statement attributed to murder accused Cyon Collier called ‘Picture Boy’. The prosecution, being conducted by State Counsel Judith Gildharie-Mursalin, was attempting to put the alleged confession in evidence during the substantive trial when the defence’s objection led to the judge deciding to test its admissibility.
Following Amsterdam’s address, Gildharie-Musalin will reply before the judge delivers her ruling.
Among those who testified yesterday before Amsterdam started addressing the judge, was Dr. Dalgliesh Joseph, who was deemed an expert.
The voir dire is continuing at the Demerara Assizes.
The case for the Prosecution is that, on the morning of September 23, 2006, two brothers, Ray Walcott called ‘Sugar’ and Carl Andrews known as ‘Alo’ were standing on the roadside at Victoria Four Corner, East Coast Demerara, watching a domino game when they were shot by the accused, who rode up on a motorcycle with a gun and began shooting.
Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh found that both siblings died from gunshot wounds.(George Barclay)
