‘Exercise Discipline’ – Clive Lloyd tells ECCB youths

FORMER  West Indian captain Clive Lloyd in his feature address to youths at the launch of the 11th annual East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) Cricket Academy urged them to exercise discipline which in turn would lead to success. The cricketing legend delivered the address in the presence of the ECCB executives and about 30 registered youths for the event that includes four females.
In Lloyd’s address, he stressed on how important discipline is in not only the world of cricket but in everyday life. He opened by giving a dictionary definition of the word ‘discipline’ then intently expanded on it.
Lloyd who disclosed how passionate he was about the youths who in turn would be the fore-runners of Guyana, stated that he believes that discipline, patience and good decision making are the keys for success.
He also stated that another very important aspect that youths must possess is a good education which in turn would be of great assistance on the field and off the field. He urged them to push themselves to the highest form of education.
In closing, he advised the youths to make the most of their opportunities since back in the day they had no coaches or cricket academies to benefit from. So it is important to pay keen attention and absorb the information to hone their cricketing skills.
Also making remarks at the launching were President of the ECCB Bisoondial Singh and Historian Tota Mangar.
Meanwhile, among the topics to be discussed are History of West Indies cricket, Laws of Cricket – parts one and two, Scoring – parts one and two, Road Safety, Careers in Cricket, Drugs and Sports, Importance of Education, Leadership and Sportsmanship, HIV and Teenage Sex, Foods and Nutrition, Social Etiquette/Grooming and Discipline.
Personalities volunteering to lecture on these topics include former West Indian Player Roger Harper, Professor Tota Mangar, Davtirth Anandjit, Sidartha Anandjit, Claude Raphael, Darshanand Rampersaud,
Runuka Anandjit, Penelope Harris.
Daniel Richmond has been charged with the task of coaching throughout the programme.
The theme for the two week seminar for youths between the ages of 12 and 16 years is “Cricket – Professionalism and Healthy Life style”.
