Ramotar pushing for closer bilateral ties with Brazil

GUYANA’s President Donald Ramotar yesterday met with Governor of the Brazilian State of Roraima, José de Anchieta, in Boa Vista, to discuss strengthening bilateral ties between Guyana and its South American neighbour, Brazil.

During yesterday’s meeting, President Ramotar and Governor Anchieta examined a number of issues, including the resurfacing of the Guyana-Brazil road, hydro-electricity and trade between the two countries.

According to a report on the online ‘INEWS website’, the Guyana delegation to the Rio+20 Summit headed by President Ramotar includes Natural Resources and Environment Minister, Robert Persaud, Former President and Environmental Ambassador, Bharrat Jagdeo, Head of the Office ofClimate Change, Shyam Nokta, Foreign Affairs Minister, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Environmental Advisor to the President, Navin Chandarpal, Head of the National Toshaos Council, Yvonne Pearson and Paulette Bynoe.
The Rio+20 runs from June 20 to 22.
Guyana will be making a case for avoided deforestation as well as a pitch for international support for Iwokrama.
