Two Venezuelans burnt in fuel boat explosion succumb to injuries

— other two listed in stable condition at the GPHC
THE Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has reported that two of four Venezuelans who were severely burnt when their vessel’s engine room caught fire succumbed to their injuries early yesterday morning.
The men who died as a result of burn injuries are said to be a 51-year-old and a 46-year-old; while their colleagues, a 55-year-old and a 56-year-old, remain
patients of the GPHC, respectively with 40% and 32% of burns about their bodies. The condition of each is listed as stable.
Last week Sunday, the four Venezuelan men were transporting fuel from Kumaka to Morawhanna when their vessel’s engine room caught fire and an explosion resulted. The men were in the engine room when fire broke out, and they were all burnt, but the fire was contained by the crew members of a passing vessel, who also assisted the injured men to the Mabaruma Hospital for initial treatment.
The vessel had left Venezuela for Guyana with a consignment of fuel for the authorized dealer in Region 1, Miramar Inc. and nothing illegal was taking place on the trawler.
Last Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law Enforcement), Mr. Seelall Persaud said that the police have since launched an investigation into the vessel explosion at Morawhanna, Region 1 (Barima-Waini), in which four Venezuelans were injured.
