THE Indian Government has mounted a science exhibition on tour, which is currently in Trinidad and Tobago and will be heading to Guyana next month. It is touring CARICOM countries with the aim of overviewing the century of scientific achievements by Indians, President Donald Ramotar disclosed, last week Wednesday, when delivering the feature address at the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha’s graduation ceremony for Pandits at the Kendra in Prashad Nagar, Georgetown.
The Head of State indicated his intention to host the Indian Science Culture Fair with the assistance of Culture Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony.
President Ramotar said:”It is important, from a national point of view in Guyana, given the fact that we live in a multi-ethnic society in which there are several cultures that complement each other in achieving one unique Guyanese culture.”
Meanwhile, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon confirmed the coming of the fair in July and said it would possibly stay for a minimum period of one month.
He said the most likely location for the showing will be the Guyana International Conference Centre (GICC).
The travelling showcase of Indian science and technology is reported to have with it some 7,000 years of that country’s scientific and cultural achievements, from zinc melting to planetary motion.
It opened last week in the twin island republic and will close there on July 20.
India, today, is being looked at as one of the most developed countries in the world, from the standpoint of science and technology education to space exploration and nanotechnology.
