The Guyana Chronicle was informed that the attack on the M. Ali Gas Station at Main and King Street occurred just after 10:00hrs, as employees were preparing to transport the previous night sales to the main location at Strand Road, New Amsterdam.

An eyewitness related to this publication that he heard an explosion and initially thought it was a tyre that exploded from the adjoining wash bay. But on a closer inspection, he observed two males on a motorcycle bearing registration number CJ 5411.

The pillion rider was armed with a gun and he fired a shot in the direction of an employee.

Seconds later, a haversack containing cash was grabbed from the employee before the motorist and pillion rider fled the scene. The motorcyclist and the pillion rider were masked and they also wore helmets.

During the robbery, customers who were refuelling their vehicles, on hearing the gunshot, took cover in their vehicles.

After the robbers fled, the wounded man was quickly taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was admitted.
