THE reaction of the opposition PNCR to the Government announcement of the sale of 20% shares of GT&T need examination.
The privatisation of the Guyana Telecommunications Corporation by the PNC Government is another example of the sad saga of the underhand, non-transparent and formerly corrupted financial transactions of its time.
It was no accident that the PNC was unable to present Annual Public Accounts for that decade-long period.
We must revisit that force of a privatisation deal and particularly the subsequent developments.
Is the muted call by the PNCR for the end of the monopoly they attempted to give to GT&T a payback for the financial support the PNCR received during their election campaigns?
Is that relationship so enduring that it can continue silencing the voice of the PNCR from outrightly supporting the PPP/C efforts to introduce competitiveness in the sector by ending the monopoly?
These questions should be answered by Mr. Robert Corbin and the PNCR who has since tendered a motion in parliament calling for the withdrawal of attempts by the Government to sell GT&T shares.
The opposition, PNCR should come clean and honest with Guyanese on this matter which deserves clarification on their antics.
