Chelsea barge past Spurs to book FA Cup final spot

CHELSEA booked a fourth FA Cup final spot in the last six years with a controversial 4-1 semi-final win over Tottenham at Wembley, who suffered more semi-final woe. After Spurs dominated the opening 40 minutes, hitting the woodwork and having an effort cleared off the line, Roberto Di Matteo’s side took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Didier Drogba rifled a stunning volley into the top corner with his left foot.
The start of the second half was clouded in controversy as Chelsea doubled their lead in the 49th minute when Juan Mata’s shot hit Ledley King on the line, but referee Martin Atkinson ruled the ball to have crossed.
Spurs gave themselves a lifeline six minutes later when Gareth Bale tapped into an empty net after Emmanuel Adebayor had rounded Petr Cech and King went close to levelling with a header.
But Chelsea made it three in the 76th minute when Ramires slipped home following Mata’s cute pass and the game was put to bed in sublime fashion when Frank Lampard thundered a 25-yard free-kick into the top corner.
Florent Malouda put the icing on the cake with a low finish to set up a final date with Liverpool next month.
