A PRE-RACE tussle will take place at the South Dakota Circuit as the top speedsters vie for the pole position in today’s second National Motor Racing meet, staged by the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) at the Timehri facility. The time trials, normally conducted the previous day to race day, will start at 08:00hrs to determine who will take the coveted starting position, which will certainly set the stage for a day of exciting competition.
Judging from the first meet for the year, each category will provide much excitement, and perhaps spills, for a day packed with high adrenalin.
Mark Vieira, a no-show on many occasions, again has issued a challenge to reclaim the lap record, but has to get past some formidable opponents. There is the ace Andrew King and there is Kevin Jeffrey, among the up-and-coming new blood in that group.
But the action will be in the Group 2B (fast) and Group 2A (slow) that have been producing much competition among some emerging stars.
Eyes will be on Afraz Ali in his red and white Toyota Starlet, and Mohamed Roshandin who moves up from Group 2A in his white Toyota Levin. Motilall Deodass was a placer in the last meet in his white Toyota Starlet and Syed Hassan in his brown and silver Toyota Starlet.
Roshandin is always under challenge in Group 2A from John Joseph in his yellow and while Honda Civic and Chet Singh in his blue Honda Civic.
The Rookies have been making their names at South Dakota circuit, either by running off the track, or crossing the finish line. Mohamed Ali in a red, while and blue Toyota EP91 has been carrying the chequered flag regularly, but is challenged by Christopher Young in a black Toyota Corolaa AE81.
Much interest is now generated in the Shifter Go Kart races, with 15-year-old Stanley Ming Jr bettering his father to zoom past the finish line. But Alexander Fiedtkou is always in the wing to take his place, along with Raymond Seebarran, Nikhil Seereeram and Jerry Max Gouveia.
The Super bikes have always created much stir with Stephen Vieira emerging the two-wheel ace to challenge, but not an easy task.
The amateur super bikers will be vying for top honours with keen tussles expected from Carey Griffith, Ricardo Fagundes and Kwame Ridley.
Of course the 125 cc bikes have their own competition with Andy Rajkarran, the veteran Victor Pires and Mark Menezes.
