SUKHDEO, the father of murdered taxi driver Deonarine Sukhdeo, said he had gone three times to a given pole aback the bushes at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, where it was arranged for him to drop off a ransom for the safe return of his son, Deonarine. The ransom was never dropped off, but the body of Deonarine Sukhdeo, who was robbed and beaten by two attackers, was found in a tract at Kuru Kuru, Linden/Soesdyke Highway on April 19, 2006.
Accused Burt Lancaster, called Moses, left work at around midday with his co-worker Daywan Kawal. They went to the Diamond taxi stand and hired a taxi to take them to Soesdyke to have a drink with two friends. During the journey, Deonarine Sukhdeo, the taxi driver, stopped at a gas station, and while he was out of the car, the accused Lancaster suggested that they rob him, and Kawal agreed.
Kawal, who was one of the accused, was able to get a plea bargain agreement that got him seven years for his part in those activities, while Lancaster now stands indicted for the murder of Sukhdeo.
Attorney-at-law Mr Basil Williams is hoping to further cross examine the witness Kawal today.
Miss Konyo Sandiford and Miss Diana Kaulesar are proscecuting.
Justice Dawn Gregory is presiding.
