We must work together for a safe environment

I COMMEND the ‘man at the helm’, Minister Clement Rohee, for effecting a lot of changes, in terms of security, here in Guyana. The logistics in crime watching is extremely challenging locally. So to reap success is always most laudable. Now, Dear Readers, I learnt a while ago in the press, how police recovered two unlicensed weapons, some cocaine and an assortment of ammunition, during separate searches, in the Cuyuni Region.
The report is that various ranks searched a man, at Takaka Landing, Cuyuni River, in whose possession, an unlicensed .38 revolver, with three matching rounds, and 271 grams of marijuana were found. Then in a second search, by the ranks, on a house, at Puruni Landing, Cuyuni River, an unlicensed, 12- gauge shotgun, with two cartridges, along with six .38 rounds, 115 grams of marijuana and 13 grams of a substance, believed to be cocaine, were all discovered.
Two men were arrested.  Great! I just love this.
Now, I am sure that the police must have had help – maybe a tip off, a call, etc. And these activities are quite good. Mr. Rohee is for the ‘community watch.’ For a safe society, all must cooperate. With the assurance of remaining incognito, there is no excuse now. We must be our brothers’ keepers.
Just look at the stopping of a number of potential criminal activities here – robberies, murders, peddling of drugs, pimping and prostitution, etc. etc.  So the good work of the Guyana Police Force must not be slighted.
Now, I urge the Guyana Police Force and the general citizenry to always take the initiative and act quickly. Do not wait and be sorry. We all want a safe environment-it is possible, but the key is to work together.
