More gas cylinders stolen on West Bank Demerara

JAIRAM Singh, of Canal Number One Polder, West Bank Demerara, was the victim of a burglary on Wednesday morning. He reported that the place where he stored his cooking gas cylinders was broken into and 27 of them taken away by two men in a car.
Singh told the Guyana Chronicle it was about 03:30 hrs when he was aroused from his sleep by loud noises in his yard and, when he went to enquire, saw the burglars rolling the cylinders across the road to a parked grey colour vehicle.
An agent for DOCOL, he said by the time he got outside his house, the duo had sped off with their booty.
Singh said he drove after them and, after driving around the village for some time, he spotted the getaway vehicle and tried to corner it by blocking the road with his but the other driver used the parapet and managed to escape.
Soon after, he went to report the crime to La Grange Police Station, also on West Bank Demerara, but the gate was padlocked and he had to return later yesterday morning.
However, despite reporting to ranks there, none of them visited the scene up to press time, Singh said.
He has since sought the services of a welder to secure the structure in which the cylinders are kept for sale.
A fuel station at La Grange, West Bank Demerara, was robbed of 36 filled gas cylinders recently, too.
