Guyana bow out to T&T in first T20 practice match

TRINIDAD and Tobago completed a commanding win over Guyana when the two sides clashed in the first of two T20 practice matches at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda, yesterday.
Today, Guyana will be looking to redeem their performance in the final practice match at the same venue from 14:00hrs
as the Twin Island Republic side prepare for the Champions League Twenty20 tournament later this month.
Yesterday, T&T won the toss and took first strike, getting to 144 in 15 overs when rain interrupted play. They then took the field under the Duckworth-Lewis System to restrict the host team to 91-6 in 15 overs as the target of 147 proved too big a task.
Shannon Gabriel, Rayad Emrit and Kevon Cooper grabbed two wickets each for Trinidad as they comfortably secured the 56-run victory.
Guyana’s openers Trevon Griffith (4) and Shemroy Barrington (2) both fell prey to Gabriel’s accuracy as he dominated with line and length while Narisingh Deonarine (8) and Christopher Barnwell (7) met their demise at the hands of Emrit.
Jonathan Foo (13) and Assad Fudadin (10) tried to put up some resistance but their efforts proved futile, as they lost their wickets to Cooper.
The next two batsmen in, Steven Jacobs and Derwin Christian, batted and made no recovery but rather saved the side from further humiliation as they lasted the remaining overs to be left unbeaten on 31 and 21, respectively.
Earlier in the day, Lendl Simmons played a dominant innings at the top of the T&T batting order as he top-scored with 88 from 48 balls which included seven boundaries and two sixes before he was bowled by Devendra Bishoo.
William Perkins who made 19 was the only other batsman to reach double figures as Adrian Barath, Darren Ganga and Dinesh Ramdin all went cheaply while Simmons kept scoring heavily. Jason Mohammed (3) and Sherwin Ganga (1) were left unbeaten when rain intervened.
Barnwell was the pick of the bowlers for the Guyana side as he finished with two wickets while Fudadin and Bishoo grabbed one each.
