THE Payless Variety Store and Powerade will sponsor one cycle programme each over the weekend, beginning at 09:00hrs tomorrow with an 11-race programme around the inner circuit of the National Park.
This programme is being sponsored by payless Variety Store and the feature 35-lap event is opened to school boys, novices and invitational riders and is expected to attract the cream of the country’s pedal pushers, including Raynauth Jeffrey,Raul Leal, Jamal John, Orville Hinds, Andrew Hicks, Geron Williams, Briton John and Curtis Dey, among others.
The 10-lap race for juveniles as well as the junior categories are also expected to be keenly contested; so is the veterans’ under and over 45 years age group five-lap events.
There will also be two and three-lap races for BMX riders and a five-lap race for mountain bikers.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Banks DIH Limited under its Powerade brand will sponsor a 50-mile road race in the West Demerara area.
The event will wheel off at 8:00hrs from outside the Wales Police Station, West Bank Demerara and the seniors and juniors will journey to Bushy Park, East Bank Essequibo before turning back to finish at Schoonord, near the Demerara Harbour Bridge, while the juveniles, mountain bikers and veterans will turn back from Uitvlugt and also finish at Schoonord.
The top six overall finishers will be rewarded for their efforts as well as the top three juniors, juveniles, veterans under and over 45 yeas and the top three mountain bikers.
Six prime prizes will be up for grabs during the course of the event.
Both programmes are being coordinated by cycling coach, Hassan Mohamed.
