29th Independence Three-Stage race pedals off this Saturday

THE 29th Annual National Sports Commission (NSC)-sponsored three-stage cycle road race, organised by the national cycling coach Hassan Mohamed to celebrate Guyana’s 45th year as an independent nation, pedals off this weekend. A total distance of approximately 171.5 miles (274.3km) will be covered, with the first stage taking place on Saturday morning at 07:30hrs and will see the cyclists ride from the Corriverton Police Station to Alexander Street in New Amsterdam, covering a distance of 46.6 miles (75km).
The second stage will take place the same day from 14:00hrs, where the cyclists will ride from the Rosignol Ferry Stelling to Carifesta Avenue in Georgetown, a distance of 60.4 miles (97.1km).
The third and final stage will go from Kara Kara on the Linden Highway to Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown, for a distance of 64.5 miles (103.3km), from 08:00hrs, bringing an end to the event that was won by Roraima Bikers Club’s (RBC) Warren ‘40’ McKay last year in a time of 7:05.15secs.
Cyclists are required to register their names by today at the NSC office that is located at 91 Middle Street, South Cummingsburg and are reminded to wear their club jersey and numbers issued before the start of each stage.
Transportation will leave the NSC Office at 12:00hrs with cyclists and officials for Springlands, East Berbice Corentyne on Friday.
