THE Guyana Police Wives’ Association is presently observing their 58th Anniversary with a programme of activities that began on Wednesday last and ends on Sunday, under the theme ‘Empowering our women for a brighter future’. The observances commenced with a Church Service which was held at the Police Officers’ Mess Annexe, Eve Leary, on Wednesday, where the officiating Pastor was Mr. Deodat Singh of the Kitty Wesleyan Church.

Other activities include an ‘Open Day’ at the Police Juliet Griffith Day Care Centre at the Police Officers’ Mess Compound yesterday, where parents visited and interacted with the staff.

In addition, the Association will be involved in community service by way of assisting with the cleaning of the Georgetown Seawall area and a treat for youths attached to its Youth Club.

The Police Wives’ Association was launched on April 27, 1953, with the objective of developing a friendly atmosphere among the wives of policemen and to assist in the development of the children of police ranks.

A statement from the Guyana Police Force yesterday said motto of the Association  is ‘Growing in service to the community’.

While the office of the Police Wives’ Association is at Eve Leary, Georgetown, vibrant branches of the Association have been established in ‘B’ Division (Berbice) and ‘D’ Division (West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo), and efforts are being made to establish branches in the other police Divisions.

In addition to its core activities, the Police Wives’ Association continues to play a vital role in the managing of the Police Juliet Griffith Day Care Centre and the organizing of the Police Force’s Annual Youth Camp.
