No more Guylines

I READ this piece that was published in the Chronicle on Sunday March 27, 2011 and I am in total agreement with Minister Robert Persaud. “Mothers and children were forced to endure long lines in rain and scorching heat to access basic food items. Horse guards were brought in to control crowds. I remember joining my mother in the lines and looking forward, with much anticipation, to getting the scarce food items. And this took place even when there was no global food crisis…”, the Chronicle quoted Minister Persaud as saying.

Guyanese must ask Mr. David Granger, the PNCR’s presidential candidate for the upcoming elections,   and former Finance Minister Mr. Carl  Greenidge,  if they know about what Mr. Persaud is talking about.

Guyanese from all walks of life used to call lining up for food hampers ‘GuyLines’.

Be it in the hot, scorching sun or pouring rain only to be told “we run out, come back next time”.

The only shortage Guyana has at present are direct flights from Toronto, Canada to Georgetown , Guyana.

Many Guyanese and their Canadian friends would love hassle-free flights to come visit friends and loved ones at home.

Guyanese are tired of complaining of treatment meted out to them at the dirty hands of ‘Trinis’ and ‘Bajans’ which must stop now.

I hope the Minister of Tourism read the news that a Jamaican woman was finger raped by an official at the Barbados airport.

All the previous talk of the many airlines wanting to do business in Guyana must come to a full stop, now.

Do tourism officials in Guyana not know how Guyanese cringe and their guts are churned when touching down in Trinidad and Barbados?
I know what I am talking about because I travel to Guyana once or twice a year and not only do I  see what is done to Guyanese but feel it also.

If Guyana could wipe out GuyLines for food hampers, be it half filled or empty, it could very well stamp out Guyanese being treated like common criminals when in Trinidad and Barbados.
