2014 World Cup could make use of video technology-Blatter

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has confirmed video technology could be introduced at World Cup 2014 in Brazil, adding that progress is being made on developing an accurate system in time for the tournament. Traditionally closed to the use of technology in football, Blatter admits a shift in tendencies is being considered at FIFA.

England became the victims of World Cup controversy in South Africa last year when a valid goal was disallowed in an incident which would have seen the goal given had technology been in place.

Speaking to TF1, Blatter said: “I think in 2012 we will have a system ready to detect whether a goal has been scored or not. At this point it will be introduced for World Cup 2014.

“It was neccessary to open up new debate over it to avoid the English from suffering more injustices.”(Goal.com)
