PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Bermuda’s Dandy Town were dumped from the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship qualifying series on Saturday night after a lacklustre performance ended in their 3-0 defeat to Defence Force.
After an enterprising showing in the first leg at home a fortnight ago, Dandy Town were nowhere near their best and defender Michael Edwards fired in two late second-half goals to follow up Sean Narcis’ first-half item, to send the visitors tumbling 4-1 on aggregate.
Narcis, who scored the equaliser in the drawn first leg in Hamilton, was again a bother for Dandy Town and he put the hosts ahead after just 13 minutes at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.
Up 1-0 at the break, Edwards netted twice in the place of 13 minutes in the second half – first in the 74th and then in the 87th minute – to complete victory for the Pro League champions.
“From the kick-off we showed we were a much better team than Hornets and during the course of the match we were very dominant in all aspects of the game, so that was very pleasing,” said Defence Force coach Ross Russell.
In the second round, Defence Force will now face Guyana’s Milerock who earned a surprise 2-1 win away to Suriname’s Inter Moengotapoe in the second leg at the Andre Kamperveen Stadium.
Milerock lost the home leg 1-0 but advanced 2-2 aggregate on away goals rule.
