$4.2M health hut for Hubu

-Cabinet outreach promise fulfilled
THE St. Lawrence medical outpost at Hubu, East Bank Essequibo will soon be moved to a spanking new facility and represents another Cabinet outreach promise fulfilled.
According to Regional Health Officer (RHO), Dr. Ravindranth Persaud, construction of the $4.2M facility will begin soon after the tender will have been awarded in two weeks. Dr. Persaud said that after the Cabinet outreach in Region Three, remedial works were undertaken on the existing structure, to allow  services to continue uninterrupted. It was, however, recognised that a new building needed to be constructed for optimum service.
Dr. Persaud indicated that throughout the 22 health centres in Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara), ways are being sought on how best to improve services. He said that within another three weeks a mammoth centre is expected to be commissioned at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, that will, in addition to regular clinic services, offer dental and ophthalmology services.
The RHO noted that all the centres, with the exception of those at Parika and De Kinderen, are managed by a Medex. At Parika, there is a permanent doctor, Persaud said, as more than 80 persons access medical care there daily. Dr. Persaud explained that since Government took over  the health facility at De Kinderen in 2006, more than 40 persons access healthcare services there daily.  (GINA)
