Mexican scholarships offer to Guyanese closes November 19

THE Government of Mexico is inviting applicants for bicentennial scholarships being offered to students from CARICOM Member States. The invitation, which was issued on October 8, closes on November 19 and further information can be obtained on telephone number 226-3987 or at http://portalsre.gog.mx/guyana/guyana.
Mexican Ambassador to Guyana, Mr. Fernando Sandoval told a press conference, earlier this year, that 18 of the 50 scholarships, for professional technicians, will be awarded to Guyanese.
He said awardees will benefit from full scholarship packages that include waived enrollment fees, a monthly allowance of US$400, a four months Spanish Language course prior to the beginning of the studies, full medical insurance coverage from the Mexican Social Security Institute and international air transportation at the beginning and end of the tenure.
The Guyana Government will be providing a monthly stipend of US$75 as well as travelling expenses in the event of any emergency.
Ambassador Sandoval added that students who accept the technical scholarships will study for three years at the National School of Professional Technical Education, an institution associated with the Ministry of Public Education in Mexico and the subject areas include Industrial Electricity, Environmental Conservation, Food and Beverage, Tourism and Hospitality.
He said the Mexican Government is trying its best, with available resources, to offer these opportunities to Guyanese in an effort to foster closer relations with Guyana and the wider Caribbean.
In August 2009, seven of the graduates completed studies at the post graduate level in Mexico on scholarships awarded in commemoration of the 200 years of Independence and 100 years of the Mexican Revolution.
