GBF donates water conservation book to National Library
GUYANA Book Foundation (GBF) has donated several copies of its latest publication, ‘Waldorf the Water drop’ by Dr. Pamela O’Toole, to the National Library. The donation, last week, was in keeping with the GBF mission to increase literacy among children in Guyana, with the collaboration of partners, through the provision of low cost books and other educational resources and services.
The author said the book is the first in a series based upon water conservation and pollution, with the specific aim of promoting awareness, among children, about the importance of the commodity.
O’Toole said, in that light, the gifts to the Juvenile Department of the Library will add to the existing collection.Accepting on behalf of the Library, Deputy Chief Librarian, Ms. Emily King extended gratitude to the donor and O’Toole and said it would serve to boost the materials in the Juvenile Section.
“I’m deeply grateful and I can assure you that all will benefit from this addition,” King said.
GBF Project Officer, Mr. Amar Panday said the gifted volumes were also given to school libraries free of cost, with the purpose of spreading awareness about the topical issue of water conservation.
He also indicated that more copies are on sale at the GBF office and are accessible to teachers and educators alike.
It was published by the GBF, with support from the Canadian Organisation for Development through Education (CODE) and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), with the design by LuCa Designs.
The GBF was established in 1990 as a non-governmental organisation and, with its partners, provides low cost or no cost books, other reading materials and educational resources and services for the benefit of children.
In 2007, the GBF’s partnership with CODE was further strengthened with a five-year funding agreement, made possible through CIDA and the Canadian public.
It happened because CODE believes that: “When children can read and write, they can learn to do, be anything and promote change for themselves, their community and their country.”
