Despite 24 years abuse, woman laments husband murder

DESPITE having endured 24 years of abuse, at the hands of her husband, Nandalall Williams alias ‘Poodle’, who was murdered  on Saturday night, Bibi Zabeeda Ally said she is frustrated at the way things turned out. She alleged that Williams had often physically abused her whenever he was intoxicated but she is saddened at how he met his  death.
Ally believes that, if she was at home, the tragedy would not have occurred but she has lost her husband and her son,  Mohamed Ashraf Ally called ‘Mansoor’, the suspected killer is in Police custody.

The woman told the Guyana Chronicle she had been away from the house for a week, while at her granddaughter’s Plaisance,  East Coast Demerara residence, where she was informed that her husband and son were fighting.
She said she hurried to get there and, as she was entering the village, the police vehicle was leaving, She stopped it and  enquired what had happened and the police gave her the news that her husband was dead and the son had been arrested.
At the Lot 113 De Kenderen, West Coast Demerara home she shared with her husband where the fatal beating took place, a tent  has already been erected and relatives gathered to comfort Ally yesterday.
Ally recalled that, about two years ago, Williams and her son had a fight during which the former stabbed the latter but  the incident was not reported but she could not say what caused the Saturday night killing.
She said, however, that Williams behaved in a violent manner whenever he consumed alcohol and she, herself, suffered blows  at his hands.
Displaying several marks of violence about her body, Ally said her son was not living with them, as he was caretaker of  another property but would visit her home from time to time.
She expressed concern over her son’s health, stating that he is sickly and does not work because of his illness.
She explained that he would, sometimes, drink liquor, too, but it was her husband who had a drinking problem and would  imbibe almost every day and misbehave.
Ally makes and sells plantain chips and plants but said Williams broke down the structure that she built, in front of her  yard, to do the business.
Police confirmed investigations are ongoing into the murder of labourer Williams, 58, which occurred at about 19:30 hrs on  Saturday, January 29.
The police report said Williams and his stepson had an argument during which the former was struck about the body with a  piece of wood. He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) where he succumbed to his injuries.
