GCB Elections …
BERBICE Cricket Board’s (BCB) president Keith Foster yesterday told Chronicle Sport neither he nor any of his executives is obligated to nominate any specific individual for the presidential position of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) at its upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election of office-bearers set for January 30 at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) pavilion. “We are scheduled to meet later in the month and make a decision on who we will support for the GCB presidency, as we are awaiting the outcome of the Demerara Cricket Board’s (DCB) elections.
“However, we will be looking on from the outside at what is going on at the moment, so that when we do have our meeting, we will be in one accord as to who we will be throwing our support behind, but let me make it clear, neither myself nor any of my executives are obligated to support a specific individual,” stated Foster.
The BCB recently held their AGM and election of office-bearers, following which the entire executive body was given the opportunity to manage the affairs of the gentleman’s game in the Ancient County, including former Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) president Bishwa Panday being re-appointed Marketing Consultant.
But despite being re-appointed to the position of Marketing Consultant, Foster said his Board is not obligated to nominate Panday for the position of presidency.
“We respect Mr. Panday for the professional manner in which he executes his affairs as our Marketing Consultant. In fact, there are projects already set out by both Panday and the BCB that we are looking forward to execute this year, as we seek to further market cricket in Berbice,” posited Foster.
Asked if he would return to the GCB as its vice-president, the position he is presently holding, Foster was adamant in his reply, which was negative.
“I cannot and will not speak on behalf of any of my executives, since I don’t have the power to do so, but as for me, I am not interested in any position on the GCB. I will be expending my energy towards Berbice cricket, as my aim is to make the BCB one of the best-run cricket boards in Guyana.”
Like Foster, Panday said whether the BCB supports him for the presidency or not has nothing to do with his position as Marketing Consultant with the Ancient County board, but was quick to point out that no one has approached him with support for contesting the presidency of the GCB.
In relation to presidential candidate Ramsay Ali’s offer to him a position on the GCB once elected as president, Panday refused to comment on the offer.
