Poultry farmer attacked at home in serious condition

FIFTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Ernest Persaud, a poultry farmer, of Siberia, Upper Demerara River is in a serious condition at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), after being chopped, with a cutlass, several times.
He lost two fingers on his left hand and his right arm was nearly severed in the attack which occurred on Old Year’s Night, around 19:30hrs.

Persaud said he was lying in a hammock, listening to the radio when he heard someone knocking at his door.
He said he got up and looked through a window but saw no one and, when he opened the door, he was confronted by the attacker who inflicted wounds all over his body.
Fortunately, another member of his household returned home soon after and took him to Mackenzie Hospital. Bleeding profusely, his wounds were sutured and dressed and he was transferred to the GPH because he also suffered a fracture of the skull.
Both his arms are now in cast, as well.
