IT is good that President Bharrat Jagdeo spent so much time at his press conference Wednesday explaining what happened in Cancun, Mexico last week. I listened to his account of what took place there and it is clear now to me that some sections of the local media, especially the Kaieteur News, were out to distort what really transpired there.
Clearly, there were concerted attempts to deliberately distort what President Jagdeo said at the panel discussion with the Norway Prime Minister and others.
From what I read in the Kaieteur News and what I heard the President saying, Kaieteur News totally missed the point Mr. Jagdeo was trying to drive home – which was the wider role within which Guyana’s experience should be seen.
The Norway Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and President Jagdeo both stressed that the Guyana-Norway agreement is working well and the process can serve as the model for other countries with forests still standing.
We are way ahead and the government should continue to keep Guyana staying in the leadership among those fighting the climate change battle.
