Guinness ‘Greatest of De Streets’ knockout round kicks off at NCC tonight

ONLY eight of the 16 teams who played brilliantly to reach the knockout stage of the second annual Banks DIH-sponsored Guinness ‘Greatest of De Streets’ football can advance from tonight’s action at the National Cultural Centre tarmac to the quarter-final round which kicks off on Sunday.
Norton Street (Werk-en-Rust) and North (Last Entrance) kick-start tonight’s action from 19:00 h, with Delon Legall, Jermaine McLeod and Neil Thompson leading Norton Street’s challenge against Gerald Gittens and Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant of North (Last Entrance).

Renault Fraser, Delon Small and Deon Dooker will spearhead Albouystown ‘A’ challenge when they go up against Costello Housing Scheme, who will be looking to Shemroy Anthony and Eon Bancroft to take them through to the final eight of the tournament which has a first prize of $500 000.
East Front Road, led by Shaka Jones, Seon McKenzie and Leon Cassius will take on Laing Avenue who will be led by Lennox Younge, Jermaine Wilson and Alistair Charles, while Rawle ‘Overseas’ Jones and Rensford Coleridge should be looking to steer Queen Street (Tiger Bay) past Alexander Village who will rely on Shem Porter and Leon Yaw.
There will be a break in the night’s proceedings, as fans will be allowed to win Guinness giveaways before the action resumes with East La Penitence, led by national striker Devon Millington and Dexter Layne, taking on Sophia who will look to Shemroy Arthur and Sheik Kamal for their victory.
Home team, Cultural Centre Tarmac, whom Fruta Conquerors’ Pernell Shultz along with Jamal Nichols will be representing, will look to turn back the challenges of Stevedore Scheme led by Eon Roberts and Shurland Battersfield.
It will be a clash for bragging rights when West Front Road face West Back Road, with siblings Wendell and Ola Pedro along with Michael Oie preparing to show the fans the former team have what it takes to stop the latter who will have on their side, the diminutive Stellon David, Sherwin Grimes and Sherwin Greaves in their strike force.
The final fixture of the evening, which promises to be an enthralling and exciting one as was evident throughout the previous nights of action, will involve Broad Street ‘B’ and defending champions Hope Street out of Tiger Bay.
Certainly, brothers Jimmy and Rocky Gravesande along with Shawn Smith will prove they are worthy enough to dethrone the champions and take the title for themselves, despite the presence of Gerald Whittington, Keoma Gravesande and Joel Lloyd in the opposition’s lineup.
