Registry reports…
UNIVERSITY of Guyana (UG) Registrar, Mr. Vincent Alexander said yesterday that the institution has been receiving more applications in that form, since the online Students’ Records Management System was introduced on April 17.
He said UG has been in receipt of somewhere in the vicinity of 2,000 online as compared to 1,500 paper submissions.
According to him, there have been no major obstacles in the way of the programme but the responsible team is, nevertheless, seeking to find ways in which it can be improved.
Assistant Registrar, Records and Data Management Systems, Ms. Barbara Prince confirmed that the process has been doing well and twice as many people have registered online than those who visit personally.
She said the reason is because old habits die hard and Internet access may be unavailable to some people who prefer having something in their hands.
Prince also remarked that many who use the computer are surprised that they complete the registration procedure in such a short time.
She said the new introduction makes for a smoother process and the institution is ahead of where it usually is, in terms of processing applicants.
According to her, people also like to track their progress online after making their submissions.
Prince said, in future, UG might need to do a lot more advertising, so that people can become aware that it is time to work with the innovation.
It offers electronic access to the administrative services, also including records retrieval and electronic database establishment and seeks to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.
For the purpose, prospective applicants can log on to www.uog.gy and, through the link ‘prospective students’, will be able to access application forms to be submitted online.
Alternatively, they can log on to turkeyenonline.uog.edu.gy or tainonline.uog.edu.gy and get the same result.
However, persons who do not have Internet access or prefer not to use it can still obtain forms through the traditional sources and apply as they did previously.
