…tells residents during Cabinet outreach
Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, during a Cabinet outreach in Linden, Region Ten, last Friday, challenged residents to develop themselves and their ability to bring other economic activities into their community.
The Prime Minister said Government has been working on the principle of re-fashioning the traditional industries and transforming locations such as Linden, so as to ensure that these have a future in the modern economy.
Noting the expansion and transformation of Linden from what it was 15 years ago, Prime Minister Hinds said that Government continues to look for opportunities to diversify the economy and encourage new investors, since the bauxite industry alone cannot support the entire community.
According to the Prime Minister, “Having a resource is good, but there must be links to the market” and Government has been developing partnerships with investors, such as BOSAI, which have links to the international market.
He encouraged residents not to see their future as being only employees of a company, but as budding entrepreneurs with the potential to supply more of their needs in their community.
There is increased activity in the wood sector and agriculture in Linden, the Prime Minister said.
Over the past years, Government has been following a policy of utilising resources which were not in use, and many changes have begun in rural areas.
Referring to the new fibre optic cable which will be connected through Linden, Hinds said this will promote increased job employment in the Information Technology sector in that community. Thus “the future is good for Linden,” he said.
Government has been investing heavily in the services in Linden, such as in education, the Prime Minister said.
He further stated that the Government’s support is with Linden as with all other communities in Guyana, and he urged residents to capitalise on the opportunities available in Linden and throughout Region Ten to further its development.
