A WASHBAY attendant of Cummings Street, Bourda, was yesterday jailed for three years by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after he pleaded guilty to a marijuana trafficking charge. Devanand Edghill did not hesitate to plead guilty to the charge that said on January 26 at Orange Walk, Bourda, he had in his possession 20 grammes of cannabis sativa.
Corporal Deniro Jones, prosecuting, told the court that on the day in question police arrested Edghill after he was seen walking along Orange Walk in a suspicious manner with a Karbie rice bag on his shoulder with a quantity of glass bottles.
According to the police prosecutor, the defendant was taken back to the station where the officer searched the bag and the marijuana was discovered. Edghill, when cautioned by officers, explained that the drug was for his personal use.
The magistrate in her ruling considered that the accused had pleaded guilty and did not waste the court’s time. In addition to the three-year jail sentence, he was also fined $30,000.
