Central Corentyne Chamber in quest for more investment

Towards  July 23 to 26 fair…
PRESIDENT of the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Imran Hamid, has said the members are working as a team in the quest to attract more investment opportunities in Berbice.

Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle recently, on the occasion to promote the July 23 to 26 Berbice Expo and Trade Fair, he pointed to the just finished $11M fire station project, undertaken in collaboration with Guyana Fire Service at Rose Hall.

He said the next thing he would like to see is the Chamber’s own exhibition site and office.
“We are now operating out of a rented office but we would like to put up our own and a recreational centre at Albion,” Hamid said.
He said the Chamber is trying to promote and draw investment through the expositions and are talking with businesses to see how they can woo different investors to the ‘Ancient County’.
Hamid posited that the business climate in Berbice is rapidly growing and the housing sector is moving at a very fast pace, through the aggressive drive by the Government, which the Chamber welcomes.
Encouraging people from all over Guyana to attend the four-day fair, under the theme ‘Promoting Economic Diversity’, he declared there is great potential for tourism as well in the county, though acknowledging that, like everything else, it takes time to catch on.
Hamid said some people, including sponsors and exhibitors, have already indicated their interest in the exposition.
According to him, a lot of them are interested in the Belvedere Industrial Site, which the Chamber will be working towards, on the challenge issued by Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Mr. Manniram Prashad.
At the promotion last week, Prashad announced that much infrastructural works have already been done at the Belvedere site.
He challenged the Chamber to start the occupation process at the location by helping the applicants start a few businesses there to get the venture going.
Prashad suggested that the Chamber exercise the option and work with the other commercial organisations and the Regional Administration to see how soon they can achieve that goal.
