Ganga to take up key post in Sports Ministry

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad CMC – Trinidad and Tobago’s national captain and former West Indies opening batsman Daren Ganga has landed a top post in the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago. This was revealed by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar at the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) Awards Ceremony on Tuesday night.
“It is with great pleasure that I announce that Daren Ganga has been made the executive director of the developmental unit of SPORTT. He will take up duties from July 1,” Persad-Bissessar announced.
SPORTT serves as the developmental arm of the Ministry of Sports, and funds and oversees major projects.
Persad-Bissessar, who was recently elected following general elections here last month, also said Ganga would serve as government’s Sports Ambassador.
She said the 31-year-old, who has played 48 Test matches for the West Indies and vowed to continue to represent T&T despite his new position, would now represent Trinidad and Tobago’s sporting interests on the regional and international stage.
