CCWU negotiated union security clause with previous Pegasus management

THE Clerical & Commercial Workers’ Union (CCWU) had negotiated a collective Labour Agreement with previous Pegasus Management which included a union security clause signed in CAL. Another clause which accompanies this one compels the management to deduct union dues from the workers’ wages and to pay them over to the union (the check off system) only one person is authorised to stop union dues deduction and that is the General Secretary of the union the workers must have consultation with the union General Secretary before it goes through a democratic and transparency process. The previous Pegasus Management under took a number of initiative to create a cement partnering relationship with union.
* Resolved all outstanding disputed at the Ministry of Labour
* Instituted a process of continuous consultation through a monthly engagement with the union/employees and by operating an open door policy with union, including visits, meeting and telephone calls
* Facilitating visits by the union to all departments of the Hotel.
The previous management responded by approaching the union to develop a partnership arrangement with a view to solving the immediate problems that had arisen and to providing a basis for longer-term improvements in industrial relations and worker management relations.
Recognising the union as the Representative of the Bargaining Unit for the workers. This Recognition Agreement sets out the sprite, purpose and scope of the Agreement; the explicit recognition of the union for the relevant categories of workers by the management; the rights and responsibilities of the management. Conducting Prompt and Respectful Negotiations for Renewals of the Agreement. Renegotiations of the terms and conditions of work and of wages must be conducted promptly and concluded in good time, and must not been allowed to become matters for industrial conflict.
