TROPHIES for the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) sponsored Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS)/Guyana Softball League (GSL) national 10/10 softball competition was unveiled at the Everest Cricket Club ground last Friday night, where GT&T’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Yog Mahadeo stated that the tournament will be an annual affair.

“We are here and I am sure you all would agree with me when I say the feelings surrounding this tournament is an exciting one and with that in mind, I want to say that GT&T plan to make it an annual affair, with each year’s tournament being better than the previous one.

Everyone including the players, spectators and even the community is a winner, for as you are aware, GT&T is a community conscious organisation who is always willing to give back to the community.” said Mahadeo.

According to GT&T’s Finance Controller Royston Rachpaul, up to the time of unveiling the trophies, the organisers of the tournament, which has over G$5m in cash and prizes for the respective winners with G$1m going to the victors, said over 400 teams had registered to compete in the tournament.

“We decided to make this tournament a country wide one, as we want to give everyone a chance to compete and with such lucrative prizes at stake, certainly it will be an exciting and highly competitive competition to watch.

Matches will be played on weekends only and with the fixtures being publicised early during the week, softball fans and team supporters will have the opportunity to select which team they want to watch compete on that said weekend” said Rachpaul.

Apart from the individual prizes that will be up for grabs, other special prizes will be allocated to batsmen who hit the ball in specific areas on the field, while a roving cameraman will be taking photographs of spectators from the Sweet 16 stage of the tournament.
