Mechanic fined for dangerous driving and speeding

A 25-year-old mechanic from West Coast Demerara has been fined and had his driver’s license suspended following a court appearance for traffic offences.
Shemuel Douglas, employed with Farms Supplies Limited and residing at Crane Housing Scheme, was charged with dangerous driving and exceeding the speed limit.
Douglas appeared before Magistrate Shivani Lalaram at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court #7 on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. He pleaded guilty to both charges.
The court fined Douglas $50,000 for dangerous driving, with an alternative of ten weeks’ imprisonment. His driver’s license was suspended for one year, effective January 7, 2026. For exceeding the speed limit, he was fined $40,000 or, in default of payment, eight weeks’ imprisonment.
