POLICE have recovered a suspected illegal firearm and ammunition following an intelligence-led operation at Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, on Tuesday.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the operation was conducted between 12:00 hours and 13:00 hours on December 23, 2025. During the exercise, ranks observed a 33-year-old businessman of Vryheid’s Lust behaving in a suspicious manner.
Police said they approached the man, who then discarded an object into a nearby trench. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of a suspected 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing six live rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Sparendaam Police Station along with the suspected firearm and ammunition, which were lodged pending further investigation.
The businessman remains in police custody as investigations continue.
