CMC – In a direct response to the spin-friendly conditions on display in the series opener, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reinforced their ODI squad by adding left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed for the remainder of the home series against the West Indies.

The decision, announced on Sunday, comes a day after spinners from both teams dominated proceedings on a slow, turning track at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur.

The 30-year-old Nasum, with 16 wickets in his 18 ODI appearances, brings a wealth of experience. His last 50-over outing for the Tigers was in December 2024.

His inclusion provides the team management with another specialised spin option as they look to capitalise on the home conditions.

The pivotal role of spin in the first match was undeniable. West Indies’ left-arm spinner Khary Pierre was remarkably economical, finishing with figures of 1 for 19 from his full quota of 10 overs.

However, it was the Bangladeshi tweakers who ultimately stole the show, with Rishad Hossain and Tanvir Islam orchestrating the visitors’ collapse by sharing eight wickets between them to seal a comprehensive victory.

With Bangladesh taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, the move to draft in Nasum appears to be a strategic masterstroke aimed at maintaining their advantage.

The pitch for the second ODI, scheduled for October 21 at the same venue, is expected to offer similar assistance to the slow bowlers. The third and final match will be played on October 23.
