MINISTER of Finance with Responsibility for the Public Service, Ashni Singh, addressed a packed gathering at the Adelphi Square, East Canje Berbice, on Friday evening, emphasising that the PPP/C is the only party genuinely committed to serving the people of the country. He pointed to the reopening of the Rose Hall Estate as a prime example, stating, “For that one reason alone the people of Canje and Region Six will vote PPP/C.”
Discussing the government’s part-time programme, Singh highlighted that over 5,000 jobs have been created in Region Six, benefiting single mothers and women financially.
Looking ahead to 2025, Singh noted the significant progress made under the current government, especially when compared to the hardships under the APNU+AFC. He cautioned, “They cannot come in green, cannot come on yellow, so they are coming in blue.”
He also mentioned that there had been encouragement to split votes to weaken the PPP/C and put it in a minority government, however, he warned that if the APNU+AFC returns to power, vital programmes such as the GuySuCo initiatives, cash grants, and other efforts led by the PPP/C would be at risk.
He further stressed, “The people of Guyana will never be fooled and deceived again because you know that whether they are coming in green, whether they are coming in yellow, blue, or purple, or whatever other color they are coming in, you know that they have one objective, and that is to steal votes from the People’s Progressive Party/Civic.”
Singh continued, “You know how destructive they are. Comrades, running a country is a very serious business; running a country requires vision, requires competency and capabilities, running a country requires credibility in order to deliver on the things you have committed to and running a country requires energy and hard work.” He further emphasised that no one else has demonstrated these qualities than President Irfaan Ali.
Singh told the residents of Canje that they stood with the PPP/c during the hard times, “and if you had not taken the stand in 2020, today we would have been a terrible dictatorship, you made sure that that did not happen, but they want to repeat that and it is your strength and your support that will ensure that that never happens again.”
Thanking the hundreds gathered, Singh said, “I have one request to make of you, I know you will vote for your party but I want you to do a little bit more of that, on Monday morning I want you to wake up and I want you to wake up everybody that you know and I want you to make sure that all of them go and I want you to make sure that they understand what they have to do.”
Encouraging everyone to come out early to vote on Monday, Singh said, “you then go home and wait on the results” which will see President Irfaan Ali victorious. “A vote for the PPP/c is a vote for me, is a vote for you, is a vote for your family, it’s a vote for your children, it’s a vote for your grandchildren.”
