A MAJOR drug bust on the East Coast Demerara has landed 32-year-old Morris Cameron behind bars for four years, along with a hefty $30 million fine, after he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Cameron appeared before Magistrate Abigail Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 24, 2025, where he admitted to having 7.860 kilograms of cocaine in his possession on July 22.
His conviction follows a targeted operation by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), who acted on intelligence and intercepted Cameron at Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara (ECD). Officers found him with a bag containing several parcels of a whitish, powdery substance, later confirmed through testing to be cocaine.
Cameron was immediately arrested, and both he and the narcotics were taken to CANU’s headquarters as investigations continued.
The successful interdiction forms part of CANU’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking networks in Guyana as the agency ramps up operations across key transit zones in recent months, aiming to disrupt the flow of narcotics both domestically and for export.
