UG Innovation Expo heads to Berbice and Linden

THE University of Guyana Institute for Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (UGIRIE) will be taking its Exhibition of Innovations to Berbice on April 28 and 29, and to Linden on May 9 and 10, 2025.

The Berbice leg of the event will be held at the University of Guyana Tain Campus, while the Linden leg will be held at the Institute of Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE) Linden branch.
“Over 40 innovations and applied research projects will be on display at the exhibitions. Innovators will showcase their work in Climate-Smart Applications, Food Science Technology, Coconut Technology, Renewable Resources, Biotechnology Applications, ICT Applications, and Academic Materials, among others,” UG said in a statement.

The highly anticipated exhibitions will provide a platform for the University of Guyana’s researchers, students, entrepreneurs, and innovators to showcase their work to the general public, collaborate with other researchers, explore business opportunities, and engage with potential sponsors.
The exhibitions are largely face-to-face, free, and open to the general public from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.

The Opening Ceremony for the Berbice leg of the event will be held on Monday, April 28, at 10:00 am in UGBC’s Auditorium, Tain Campus, while the Opening Ceremony for the Linden leg will be held on May 9 at 10:00 am at the Linden IDCE building.

Director of UGIRIE, Dr Lawrence Lewis said, “It is an honour and of significant importance to UGIRIE to be hosting these two exhibitions in Berbice and Linden, which are aimed at showcasing Innovation, Research, and Entrepreneurship to the communities of Berbice (Regions 5 and 6) and Linden (Region 10).

It provides UGIRIE with the opportunity to provide mentorship on marketing, product improvement, and quality management to both old and new entrepreneurs, innovators, and researchers. UGIRIE is extremely delighted to be hosting these exhibitions, and we hope that persons will come out in their numbers to see all the wonderful projects on display.”

UGIRIE has hosted similar exhibitions in the past in downtown Georgetown at the National Library and the University’s Turkeyen Campus.
UGIRIE is one of the newer institutes created in 2021 as a Technology Transfer Facility (TTF) that provides a platform for researchers and innovators within the University of Guyana and allied institutions/individual researchers to share new products and services with industry.

The programmes and courses offer practical approaches to establishing, accelerating, and scaling up businesses. The Institute focuses on concepts that are grounded in sound science and technology.
The University of Guyana, through its students, faculty, and research institutes, has consistently produced path-breaking research which continues to add to the existing body of knowledge in various areas of academic research. Within the last four years alone, the world ranking of the University of Guyana

has risen over 300 points and is steadily climbing towards the upper quartile of academic institutions worldwide
