celebrates decades-long diplomatic ties
President Dr. Irfaan Ali has officially accepted the Letters of Credence from the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Guyana, Her Excellency Yang Yang, during a formal ceremony at the Office of the President.
This diplomatic formality signals the official start of Ambassador Yang’s tenure in Guyana and reaffirms the strong and longstanding relationship between the two nations.
Guyana and China formally established diplomatic relations on June 27, 1972, making Guyana the first English-speaking Caribbean country to forge ties with the East Asian nation. Since then, the bilateral partnership has grown to encompass cooperation in infrastructure, energy, education, healthcare, and technology.
In welcoming the new envoy, President Ali acknowledged the deep-rooted and fruitful relationship that has existed for more than five decades.
Ambassador Yang’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment in Guyana’s transformation, as the country seeks to strengthen global partnerships to support its national goals in infrastructure development, climate action, and economic diversification.
The two nations are expected to further build on existing cooperation agreements and explore new opportunities for bilateral investment and cultural exchange in the coming years.
