THE Ministry of Labour’s Department of Cooperatives and Friendly Societies successfully conducted a training workshop on Thursday aimed at strengthening cooperative societies in Region Six.

Held at Fraser’s Hall in Rose Hall, the workshop provided participants with crucial insights into compliance with the Cooperative Societies Act, Chapter 88:01, as well as topics on Anti-Money Laundering/Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), proper record-keeping, working conditions, child labour regulations, and occupational safety and health (OSH). Special emphasis was placed on the safe handling of chemicals to ensure workplace safety.

Attendees actively participated in the session, expressing their gratitude for the knowledge shared. The training was facilitated by a dedicated team of professionals, including Ms. Alyea Williams, Compliance Officer; Ms. Janaknauth Panchu, Chief Cooperatives Development Officer; Mr. Wilton Lawrence, IT Officer; Mr. Keshri Jailall, Regional Cooperatives Development Officer; Mr. Emanuel Ramdial, Labour Officer; and Ms. Nazmoon Jaffarally, Occupational Safety and Health Officer, along with other regional officials.

This initiative underscores the Ministry of Labour’s commitment to fostering strong, compliant, and well-informed cooperative societies across the country. Similar workshops are expected to be held in other regions as part of ongoing efforts to enhance cooperative governance and workplace safety.
