A VENEZUELAN woman has been remanded to prison after being charged with the attempted murder of a businessman at Mango Landing, Region Seven.
Veronica Rondon Alfaro, of San Felix/El Dorado, Venezuela, was arrested by ranks from the Eteringbang Police Station on March 13, 2025, and was officially charged on Monday with the offence of ‘Attempt to Commit Murder.’
The charge was filed contrary to Section 103 (c) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01 of the Laws of Guyana.

The accused appeared virtually before His Worship Rabindranaught Singh at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court at approximately 11:30 hrs on Monday, where the charge was read to her.
She was not required to plead to the indictable offence and was subsequently remanded to prison. The matter has been adjourned to June 17, 2025, for continuation.
Rondon Alfaro is accused of attempting to murder 36-year-old businessman, Frederick Junior Stanford of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, on March 9, 2025.
Investigations revealed that the accused and the victim had been in an intimate relationship for the past year at Mango Landing.

On the night of the incident, Rondon Alfaro reportedly left Stanford’s place of business and went to a nearby shop owned by a 30-year-old male Venezuelan national, where she consumed alcohol. At about 23:00 hrs, she returned to Stanford’s business place, which was closed, and knocked on the door. The businessman allegedly told her to “go back where you went.”
Moments later, he opened the door, at which point Rondon Alfaro allegedly rushed in with a one-litre Coca-Cola bottle containing gasoline and threw the flammable liquid on him. A scuffle ensued, causing some of the remaining gasoline to spill

onto her. She then lit a lighter, igniting a fire that left both parties with burns.

Public-spirited citizens intervened and assisted in transporting both the accused and the victim to the Eteringbang Police Station. They were later medevacked to Georgetown via a Guyana Defence Force aircraft for urgent medical attention.
The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather evidence in preparation for the trial.
