PNC/APNU/AFC is further removed with each debate

Dear Editor,
THE Opposition’s Parliamentarians budget debate presentations since 2020 to now continue to be grossly lacking in content and can be summarised as redundant, repetitive, vacuous, tedious and hallucinatory to say the least, completely filled with lies and deceptive statements meant to hoodwink the Guyanese public.

It was pathetic to witness the incoherence of some Opposition MPs, a few even could not read fluently and the gross lacking of analytical skills.
MP Geeta Chandan was an exception, and gave an example of how a proper debate should be done by an Opposition MP when confronted with a budget which indeed brings ‘A Secure, Prosperous and Sustainable Guyana’ to all.
To attempt to discredit a well-crafted budget is suicidal. Fortunately, the government’s side of the House decisively refuted all the arguments presented by the Opposition with hard facts and evidences with facts, and evidences which can be corroborated by all Guyanese.
The proof is delivered as far as the eyes could behold in every nook and cranny and in the improved lives of every Guyanese from the ‘womb to the tomb’, the PPP/C Government could stand and deliver on its track record.

The Opposition’s debate of Budget 2025, like all others, will continue to be an insurmountable challenge since they cannot stand on their track record, which was replete with corruption, cronyism (friends and families, no wonder they are using these phrases ad nauseam), gross mismanagement of the economy, burdensome taxation, spiraling cost of living, squandering and depleting the reserves, crumbling infrastructures, wanton dismissal of workers, unlivable wage and salary increases and complete wage freeze in GuySuCo, and destruction of billions in assets resulting from the closure of four grinding estates, and many more which have been graphically detailed and presented by the government MPs.

Moreover, when this notorious and scandalous track record is juxtaposed with what the Opposition MPs have now promised to deliver ‘when they get into government’ is hallucinatory, surreal and downright deceptive.
It was the biggest laugh when MP Jordan ‘promised’ to bring back GuySuCo to viability having at his disposal all the proof to authenticate the coalition’s willful destruction of the industry as a punitive scheme to annihilate a sector deemed to be a PPP support base.
The hard working and competent Minister Zulfikar Mustapha presented all the reasons why MP Jordan’s statements are unbelievable, incredulous and lacks trust. No one will ever trust the Opposition again and they should endeavour to be at least a credible opposition having failed at the governance level.

MP Jordan’s namesake, the ‘Good Life’ Coalition’s Finance Minister Mr Winston Jordan in his final Budget presentation in 2019 had promised: Transforming the Economy, Empowering the People and Building Sustainable Communities for the Good Life’- the opposite of what was delivered to the Guyanese people.
This ‘good life’ journey had begun in 2015 and it was ‘A Fresh Start to the Good Life in a Green Economy’ and throughout this ‘good life journey,’ the Coalition had failed to deliver until they were kicked out of Office by the No Confidence Motion in December 2018, but held on to power for dear life and even after the lost the 2020 General Elections in March, 2020.

It was for five long months the Coalition unashamedly held on to the reins of power claiming that the PPP/C rigged the elections even after the recount proved that it was they which attempted to rig it.
What was apparent that everyone whom the PNC touched became a rigger— the AFC, the WPA and the minnows. The PNC’s rigging DNA is contagious.
It is evident that the APNU and the AFC will never relent and seek forgiveness for the numerous wrongdoings which they foisted on the Guyanese people, and never again will the people trust them to be in government, with each budget debate they are further removed.
Yours sincerely,
Haseef Yusuf
