One Guyana Mashramani Softball Cup set for Bath Sports Club on February 16

RORAIMA Community Developers and R.S. Sports have teamed up with the Bath Settlement Sports Club of West Berbice to stage the inaugural One Guyana Mashramani Softball Cup on Sunday, February 16 at the Bath Community Centre Ground. The action gets underway at 09:00 hrs.
According to the organisers, the event is part of Guyana’s 55th Republic Anniversary celebrations and will see both male and female teams from Regions 3, 4, 5, and 6 participating in the one-day limited overs tournament.

The organisers stressed that all are aware that softball cricket is the grassroots to all forms of cricket and it nurtures our youths to move on in playing all forms of the game at the very highest level and it also brings families, friends and communities together.
The organisers believe that sporting events like this would bring out the youngsters and older players together in one as the competition will be played in an open category and will see over $500,000 in cash and other incentives up for grabs.

Outstanding individual players in each match and the player with the best overall bowling figures will be awarded with trophies while the best overall player with highest score in an inning, players of the finals, and most valuable players will also be rewarded for their efforts.
Among those supporting the tournament so far are Revision Optical, Cozy Pub, Furniture Pro, G&J Supermarket, and S. Chattergoon 65 Sports Store.

According to the event coordinator, there will be lots of side attractions for the fans such as snatch-de-bottle, sack race, 100m sprint, tug-a-war, dancing competition, and much more.

Admission into the venue is absolutely free and all funds raised will go towards Bath Sports Club in helping to enhance the club’s activities for its young people.

Interested teams are asked to contact the captain of the Bath Settlement Sports Club, Mahesh Persaud, on 626-1869 or 657-2022 for registration of teams. Registration closes on Friday, February 14.
