The One Guyana Basketball League continued on Wednesday at the National Gymnasium with victories for Kobras and Plaisance Guardians.
Plaisance Guardians playing Black Caiman started hot in the opening period 18-11, playing well to show obvious intent with big minutes from Delroy Critchlow and Moses Matthews.
Guardians extended their lead in the second period to 37-22 with Joel McPhoy and Kadeem Beckles coming to the fore with good offensive plays.
Caimans had a stronger third quarter to tried to bounce back but were not able to overcome the deficit as Guardians held strong with a 58-45 advantage before closing it out 81-53.
Critchlow ended with a game high 23 points with Matthews scoring 11.
McPhoy also played well for his side with 17 points with support from Beckles with 12 points to give guardians their first points in the league.
Meanwhile Prospect Kobras also edged Georgetown Masters 62-52 in their contest.
Stephan Gillis showed he had not lost his shooting skills with an awesome 18 points for the master’s sides.
It was the Masters team in front after Gillis’ opening blast at the top that led 14-9.
They still managed a 4-point lead at the break 30-26 but fitness of the younger side Kobras started to overcome their more experience in the third period 43-42.
The final quarter saw them pulling away for good after Masters were outrun by their Kobras counterparts.
Kobras’ Trevor Smith scored 21, Carlos Edwards had 9 and 10 buckets from Elijah David saw them putting in a solid all-round performance on the offensive and defensive end to clinch the victory by 10 points.
The One Guyana League fixtures are played thrice weekly on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at the national gymnasium hard courts featuring teams from around the country battling for top honors.
The final clash is set for April 26th 2025.
