SHARQE Ennis and Ebo McNeil emerged as the top players when the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) held its CNOOC Petroleum Guyana National Nationwide Schools Table Tennis Championships for Region 10.
The competition saw scores of student athletes turning out at the McKenzie High School auditorium seeking glory.
In the final Ebo Mc Neil defeated Oiden France for the top spot after winning the clash in straight sets 11-6 and 11-7.
In the girls U-19 category Sharqe Ennis overcame Larshil August for the gold medal place.
The tournament was coordinated by ITTF level one coach and ITTF umpire Candacy Mc Kenzie and former national junior player Marlon Washington.
The competition was supported by the Department of Education of region 10 and sponsored by CNOOC Petroleum Guyana.
The regional winners will battle in a national playoff after the conclusion.
The GTTA president Godfrey Munroe believes that the championships form the catalyst for integrating the sport into schools with a view of building capacity and developing talent as well achieving the objective of being an incubator for the development of the sport regionally and nationally.
He added that CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited is driving human and social development projects in Guyana through its Corporate Social Responsibility programs and that sport is an avenue that is being used to improve student athletes’ lives.
