–Dr. Singh encourages stakeholders to look within each other’s countries
SENIOR Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh on Wednesday evening urged both Guyanese and Grenadian businesses to look for business opportunities in each other’s country.
Dr. Singh made those remarks during a welcome reception at the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre for a trade delegation from Grenada, which was led by Prime Minister of Grenada Dickon Mitchell over the last two days.
The Finance Minister, during his address to the gathering, told the Grenadian private sector representatives that an investment in Guyana opens up a world of opportunities for them, especially since the country serves as a hub for connectivity to the South American market for the Caribbean.
He went on to note that President Dr. Irfaan Ali has always said that during this era of Guyana’s economic transformation, the prosperity Guyana is set to achieve must redound firstly to all Guyanese and further to the benefit of the Caribbean.
“Our President has always said that this era of economic transformation and whatever prosperity Guyana might achieve must redound to the well-being, first and foremost, to the Guyanese people; to all of the Guyanese people… It must redound to improving the circumstances of the Guyanese people, but additionally, must redound to the benefit of our Caribbean brothers and sisters,” Dr. Singh said.
He said that Guyana is a proud founding member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and takes its regional obligations and relationships seriously.
Against this backdrop, Dr. Singh said the government sees what is happening in Guyana as presenting valuable opportunities for the Caribbean.
With that, the Finance Minister added that they want more Grenadian companies to be doing business in Guyana in various sectors, including agriculture and mining, among others.
“We want you to be seeking out business opportunities in Guyana, and to be doing business in Guyana… And similarly, we want more Guyanese companies doing business in Grenada,” he said.
Dr. Singh proffered that more supply of goods and services from Grenada means more competition and better prices in Guyana and the same for Grenada.
As such, he indicated that all productive sectors in Guyana that are ripe with investment and business opportunities.
“We welcome you here, and we look forward to those opportunities being discovered and exploited and converted to the well-being of both the Guyanese and the Grenadian people,” he said.
