Firearms, ammunition discovered during Police, Coast Guard Operation
IN what has been described as ‘one of the biggest-ever’ narcotic eradication operations in Berbice’s history, Police and Coast Guard ranks successfully uncovered and destroyed over $2.5 billion worth of cannabis during a joint operation at De Veldt in the Berbice River, on Friday.
According to a police release, the operation, which took place between 05:00 and 12:30 hrs, resulted in the discovery of what authorities have termed a ‘stash house’ at the remote location.

Inside, the ranks found 1,300 pounds of dried cannabis, 100 pounds of cannabis seeds, 520 twelve-gauge cartridges, and a .22 long rifle accompanied by 19 matching rounds of ammunition.
Further exploration of the area revealed three abandoned farms, each spanning approximately three acres. On one of these farms, officers discovered forty trays of cannabis seedlings, each about two inches tall.
Venturing further, the ranks located two additional farms, each covering ten acres and separated by roughly one hundred feet.
“The first farm had about thirty-nine thousand (39,000) suspected cannabis plants, and the second farm had about fifty thousand (50,000) suspected cannabis plants, all measuring about six to twelve inches in height,” the release detailed.
All items found at the stash house and the extensive cannabis farms were photographed before being destroyed by fire. The total street value of the cannabis eradicated in the operation is estimated at more than $2.5 billion.
The seized firearm, ammunition, and other items were transported to Central Police Station, where they were photographed, marked, sealed, and securely lodged as evidence.
Despite the scale of the operation, no arrests were made.
