IN observance of India’s 78th Independence Anniversary, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre on Thursday, at its 50 Anira Street, Queenstown location, hosted a cultural event which featured the hoisting of the flag and a colourful cultural presentation.

India’s High Commissioner to Guyana, Dr. Amit Telang hoisted the Indian National Flag, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. He then read excerpts from the address made by President of India, H.E. Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on the eve of India’s 78th Independence Day.
He also used the occasion to convey his gratitude to H.E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana on his greetings on the occasion of India’s Independence Day, underscoring the deep friendship and historical relations between the people of India and Guyana.
This was followed by cultural items, including Indian classical dances, poetry, and patriotic songs.
The programme also included a photo exhibition to commemorate the Partition Horror Remembrance Day, in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art, Castellani House, and the University of Guyana’s Faculty of Education and Humanities.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, and senior and prominent members of the Indian community. This exhibition ends today.
